Eduard Löök+ Set for the Tempest Mk. V w/Late Wheels
(for the Eduard Kits)
1:48 Scale

One of Eduard’s product lines, Löök, provides high-quality, pre-painted cast resin aircraft instrument panels.  They are also known for their BIG ED and BIG SIN offerings that bundle various detail sets together at a savings for the customer.  Here, we take our gander at what I gather represented the launch of the Löök+ product line – a more modest bundle of parts and masks for the Eduard 1:48 scale Tempest Mk. V.

This Löök+ set contains three separate cast resin sets:  #644006 – Tempest Mk. V Löök, #648418 – Tempest Mk. V Exhaust Stacks, and #648421 – Tempest Mk. V Wheels (Late) along with #EX628 – Tempest Mk. V. TFace Masks.  Overall, a Löök+ set is based on the original Löök offering but contains a modest selection of extra goodies but not quite at the level or complexity of a BIG SIN ESSENTIAL set.  Still, the items included here represent several nice steps up in detail over what the kit itself provides.

In this particular set, you get a three-dimensional resin instrument panel casting with appropriately raised instrument bezels, switches, knobs, and other details such as data placards and bolt details.  The precision-painted instrument dial faces are the real highlight.  Each dial appears accurately represented here, and you can visually identify and distinguish between artificial horizon, turn indicator, compass, and so forth.  Then, Eduard dropped in a bit of their distortion-free, self-leveling clear glass treatment (probably clear gel medium) atop each dial face.  They also included the Tempest STEEL photoetched seatbelts set with the Löök instrument panel.  As mentioned in previous reviews, they look great and contain details amazingly fine including stitching and even some shading/shadow effects.

The exhaust stack set has only two parts:  integrally cast left and right exhaust stacks.  They look great and indeed improve significantly upon the kit parts.  They are designed to be drop-in replacements.  Their detail is great, down to the weld lines and recessed exhaust port faces.

The Tempest Mk. V Wheels (Late) set includes a set of late production, larger- diameter wheels along with a cast resin tailwheel.  The accuracy and casting are great.  The Dunlop imprimatur is very well represented on the tire sidewalls (even on the tail wheel) as are other tire seam and sidewall details.  There’s also a valuable pre-cut self-adhesive masking set to make the painting of the wheel hubs a breeze.

The TFace (or two-face) masking set is for both the inside and outside of the windscreen and canopy.  I am a huge fan of Eduard self-adhesive pre-cut masking sets, as they save a lot of time and are very precise.  Here, the TFace set allows for careful masking and painting of the inside of the clear parts for the most realistic appearance you can get.

Overall, this Löök+ set brings together some great details and masking sets for the Eduard 1:48 scale Tempest, and adds a wide range of important and highly detailed touches to your model at a bit of savings over if you bought all these sets separately.
