Eduard Brassin P-51D Exhaust Stack Detail Sets (for the Eduard Kits) — 1:48 Scale

Injection-molded kits of piston engine aircraft often fall short when it comes to the detail on their engine exhausts.  They might get the basic shape right, but the ends of the exhausts are often flat, featureless, and look fake.  Eduard’s recent family of 1:48 scale P-51Ds have pretty good exhaust stacks with somewhat recessed faces.  Still, Eduard has released cast resin exhaust stacks for their kits in their Brassin product line that do even better in terms of detail.

These two sets are #648485 – P-51D Exhaust Stacks and #648486 – P-51D Exhaust Stacks w/ Fairing.  These are the unshrouded and shrouded exhausts stack variants seen on the P-51D.  Each of these sets contain two parts – the left and right exhaust stacks for the Merlin engine.  As is par for the course with Eduard, the casting quality is impeccable.  The exhaust tubes are deep and hollow on the inside, and even the miniscule bolts attaching the exhaust stack bases to the engine are represented.  There’s even a hint of the weld line going down the midline of each pipe, and the flanged ends of the pipes look really good.  Once removed from their casting blocks, these parts are designed to drop right into the kit as direct replacements for the plastic items.

Overall, these sets look great and will add a really nice touch to your 1:48 scale Eduard Mustang.  Just make sure that whatever version of the P-51D you’re working on is matched up with the right style of exhaust stacks.
